PRAIRIE CITY — Beau Webb suffered his first pitching loss of the season and PCM’s baseball team struggled at the plate and in the field during a 7-1 loss to Saydel in Heart of Iowa Conference play on Wednesday.
Saydel got an early lead with a two-run third inning and then pulled away from a close game with five runs in the sixth.
The Mustangs were limited to five hits and they committed five errors.
“We couldn’t get anything going offensively,” PCM baseball coach Jeff Lindsay said. “Their pitcher kept us off balance. We just had a tough night and we have to have a short memory.”
Webb dropped to 3-1 on the season after allowing five earned runs on nine hits in seven innings. His earned run average grew to 1.59.

Sage Burns had two of the team’s five hits and he scored the team’s lone run in the fifth. He’s batting a team-best .400.
Caleb Duinink finished with one hit and one RBI, Webb and Andrew Mitchell each had one hit, Connor Bennett walked once and stole one base and Durant Van Dyke also drew a walk.
The Mustangs (5-7 overall, 5-2 in conference play) have lost two straight games and six of their last eight.
Mason Hicks tossed all seven innings for Saydel (5-11, 3-5), allowing one run on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
Jaxon Trotter and Nick Gudin each had two hits for the Eagles.
Albia 11, PCM 0, 5 innings
ALBIA — The Mustangs were limited to two hits during a road loss to Albia on Thursday.
The Blue Demons snapped a four-game skid, downing PCM 11-0 in five innings at home. They scored six runs in the third and five in the fourth to end things early.
Mitchell had one hit and one steal, Webb tallied one hit and Burns walked once. The only other base runners came off two Albia (7-8) errors.
Easton Webb pitched three innings and allowed five earned runs on six hits with two walks. He took the loss.
Jacob Wendt got two outs in the fourth but allowed five earned runs on four hits with two walks.
Van Dyke was put into the game with two outs in the fourth. The Mustangs got the final out of the frame on a caught stealing.
