L-S softball downs Belle Plaine, edges Saydel

BELLE PLAINE — A six-run fourth inning helped Lynnville-Sully’s softball team pull away from Belle Plaine during a South Iowa Cedar League road game on Wednesday.

The Class 1A No. 5 Hawks led 3-2 after three innings but used that big fourth frame to pull away for good.

They went on to win 11-3 after cranking out 14 hits and taking advantage of seven Lady Plainsmen errors.

Denali Conover held Belle Plaine to four hits and two earned runs over seven innings. She got the win in the circle after striking out six, walking one and hitting a batter.

Conover also had two hits and one RBI at the plate.

Reagan McFarland led L-S (9-4 overall, 6-0 in the SICL) offensively with three hits, two runs, two RBIs and two stolen bases. She doubled and tripled in the game.

Korinne Jansen also tripled and finished with two hits, two runs and two RBIs, Cayler Noun Harder added two hits, one run and one RBI and Laci Keen chipped in two hits and one run.

Aliya James had one hit and one RBI, Caitlin Alberts finished with one run, one RBI, one walk and one steal and Megan Van Zante added one hit, one run and one stolen base.

Lily Zylstra finished with one hit and one run, Greenlee Smock scored a run and stole a base and Elise Alberts scored a run.

Jenna Fry had one hit and two RBIs to lead Belle Plaine (7-5, 4-2).

Lynnville-Sully 4, Saydel 2

SULLY — Keen homered and had two hits, Jansen and Noun Harder each collected two hits and Conover spun a seven-hitter in the circle as the Hawks downed Class 3A Saydel 4-2 on Thursday.

L-S scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to go in front for good. The Hawks led 2-0 after four but Saydel (9-4) tied it with two runs in the top of the fifth.

Jansen also had two steals to go with her two hits, Noun Harder added one run and one RBI and Alberts chipped in one hit, one RBI and one steal.

James doubled, Zylstra had one hit and one run and Smock scored one run and stole a base.

Conover (8-3) got the win in the circle after allowing two earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and four walks in seven innings.
