MONTEZUMA — Kylie Doty spun a complete game in the circle and had a productive night at the plate during Colfax-Mingo softball team’s 5-2 win over Montezuma on Friday night.
The Class 2A No. 13 Tigerhawks scored three runs in the first inning and never trailed in winning their first game of the season during South Iowa Cedar League action.
Doty finished with two hits, two runs and one walk at the plate. One of her hits was a triple. In the circle, she also spun a seven-hitter and allowed two earned runs with six strikeouts in seven innings.
Mariah Webster had three hits, two RBIs and scored a run to lead the offense. Charlotte Donahue walked twice and had one hit, Caylee Cunningham chipped in one hit, one run, one RBI and one walk and Joslyn Chadwick walked once and scored a run.
Madison Stackhouse and Danica Linn each had one hit. Stackhouse and Carley Underwood contributed one RBI each.
In the first inning, Chadwick started things with a walk. She eventually scored on Cunningham’s RBI single. Webster also had an RBI hit and Underwood scored one on an RBI groundout.
Stackhouse’s RBI came on a single in the fifth. Webster chipped in another RBI single in the sixth that made it 5-2. The hit scored Doty, who reached on a walk.
Colfax-Mingo improved to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the SICL, while Montezuma dropped to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in league play.
