L-S boys claim seven wins, cruise to Last Chance coed title

Hawk girls place second in final home track meet

SULLY — Lynnville-Sully’s boys track and field team piled up seven wins and 14 top-three finishes at the L-S Hawk Last Chance Coed meet on Monday.

The Hawks cruised to the team title with 136 points. L-S were winners of three relays and Corder Noun Harder, Josh Hardenbrook, Carter Dunsbergen and Ryan Annee all won individual events.

L-S was 37 points clear of runner-up ADM (99) at the top. West Marshall (96), East Marshall (80.5), Albia (73.5), Pekin (60) and Pella (41) completed the field.

The Hawks won the shuttle hurdle, sprint medley and distance medley relays and were second in the 4x200.

In the shuttle hurdle, Blake Rea, James Gruver, Mason Jansen and Carter Dunsbergen won the race in 1 minute, 6.65 seconds.

The sprint medley relay team of Kyle Squires, Noun Harder, Hardenbrook and Conner Maston finished in 1:39.71 and Noun Harder, Hardenbrook, Gruver and Maston were winners in the distance medley relay in 3:50.53.

The 4x200 runner-up foursome included Squires, Annee, Caleb Rea and Jansen and they finished in 1:38.94.

Noun Harder (11.88 seconds) and Hardenbrook (23.72) won the 100 and 200, respectively. Caleb Rea was sixth in the 200 in a season-best 25.17.

Dunsbergen (16.57) and Blake Rea (17.28) were 1-3 in the 110 high hurdles, Annee won the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 11 inches and Maston (5-8), Dunsbergen (5-6) and Caleb Rea (5-6) finished 2-3-5 in the high jump.

Gruver and Blake Rea both ran season-best times in the 400 hurdles as Gruver was second in 57.79 and Blake Rea finished third in 1:02.05.

Zach Morningstar was third in the 3,200 (11:04.66) and fourth in the 1,600 (5:07.28), Ben Ochirbat finished fourth in the discus with a season-best throw of 109-7 and Squires took fifth in the shot put with a season-best toss of 39-6.

GIRLS

Greenlee Smock had two of the Hawks’ four wins and the L-S girls track and field team was the runner-up during the L-S Hawk Last Chance Coed meet on Monday.

Pekin won the meet with 174.33 points. L-S scored 143 points in second followed by Albia (104), ADM (83.33) and East Marshall (75.33).

Smock recorded season-best times in all three of her individual races. She won the 200 (28.85) and 3,000 (11:10.93) and was the runner-up in the 1,500 (5:20.24).

The other individual win came from Korinne Jansen in the long as her best leap was marked at 15-2 1/2.

The 4x100 relay had the final victory. Carsyn McFarland, Korinne Jansen, Reagan McFarland and Dylann Huyser won the race in 53.77.

The Hawks were second in three relays.

The 4x200 relay team of Carsyn McFarland, Aliya James, Korinne Jansen and Huyser finished second in a season-best 1:53.7.

The sprint medley and distance medley relays also were second. The sprint medley team of Reagan McFarland, James, Carsyn McFarland and Caitlin Alberts finished in 1:59.37 and the distance medley foursome of Riley Van Maanen, Natalie Nikkel, Natalie Roberts and Kinsley Tice finished in 5:15.17.

L-S was second in six events overall. Sydney Jansen was the runner-up in the high jump (4-6) and 200 (30.15).

The Hawks were third in four individual events — Alberts (1:05.89) in the 400, Callista Hackert (2:53.67) in the 800, Megan Van Zante (season-best 5:35.26) in the 1,500 and Meleish Vos (1:20.31) in the 400 hurdles.

Vos (18.71) and Elizabeth Elliott (19.41) were 4-5 in the 100 hurdles, Tice (season-best 2:55.04) finished fourth in the 800 and Morgan Jones (14.82) placed fourth in the 100.

Reagan McFarland (13-1 1/2) was fifth in the long jump, Alyssa Lepley (25-11 3/4) was fifth in the shot put and Lily Zylstra (25-5 1/2) and Natalie Nikkel (25-5 1/2) tied for sixth in the shot put. Nikkel’s toss was a season-best.
