Baxter boys golfers struggle at conference tournament

CONRAD — Baxter’s boys golf team struggled at Oakwood Golf Course during the Iowa Star Conference tournament on Wednesday.

The Bolts shot a 467 and finished eighth in the nine-team field.

North Tama won the team championship with a 354. Don Bosco (355) was one shot back in second, while Clarksville (386), Colo-NESCO (389) and GMG (418) completed the top five. Tripoli (432), Dunkerton (434) and Riceville (521) also were in the conference field.

Zach Backus shot a 109 to lead the Bolts. Jalen Porter (112), Dalton Shanks (117) and Hunter Hicks (129) contributed the other three counting scores. Carter Samson (132) shot a non-counting score.

Austin Hennick of Colo-NESCO shot an 82 to win meet medalist. Michael Schrier of North Tama carded an 84 as the runner-up medalist.
