Newton girls tennis loses to Oskaloosa

Chassidy Henwood improves to 6-1 in singles competition

OSKALOOSA — Chassidy Henwood improved to 6-1 in singles competition, but Newton’s girls tennis team lost 7-4 to host Oskaloosa on Tuesday during a Little Hawkeye Conference matchup.

Henwood and Maggie Garrett both won their matches at No. 2 and No. 1 singles, respectively, but Oskaloosa went 4-2 in singles and 3-2 in doubles to win the conference matchup.

Garrett won her No. 1 singles match 6-1, 7-5 over Jillian Jennings and Henwood claimed her sixth win of the season at No. 2 singles, downing Aubree Blanco 6-2, 6-1.

The two wins for Newton in doubles came from Megan and Molly Lovan and Ella Swarts and Olivia Hotchkin. The Lovan sisters won their doubles match 7-6 (3), 6-7 (6), 10-8 and Swarts and Hotchkin were 7-5, 7-6 (1) winners.

All seven of Oskaloosa’s wins came in straight sets.
