BROOKLYN — Caitlin Alberts had a big night on the oval for the Lynnville-Sully girls track and field team on Friday.
Alberts scored 25 of the team’s 142 points and led the Hawks to a team championship at the Bear Classic Relays.
Alberts won the 400-meter dash and 800 run and anchored the 4x800 and sprint medley relay teams to victories as the Hawks were 21 points clear of Belle Plaine at the top of the standings.
Belle Plaine scored 121 points in second, while the rest of the six-team field included North Mahaska (92), Sigourney (89), GMG (74) and Iowa Valley (50).
“The Hawks competed all night,” L-S girls track and field coach Kevin Johnson said. “The girls continue to push each other to improve as individuals and as a team.”

Alberts’ winning time in the 400 was clocked at 1 minute, 6.4 seconds and Alberts won the 800 in 2:42.52.
The Hawks won seven events and doubled up in five individual events.
Carsyn McFarland and Aliya James went 1-2 in the 100, Megan Van Zante and Kinsley Tice were 1-2 in the 1,500 and Alberts and Natalie Roberts finished 1-3 in the 400.
McFarland and James finished the 100 in 13.63 and 13.71, respectively. Van Zante won the 1,500 in 6:05.38 and Tice was the runner-up in 6:08.14.
Roberts’ third-place time in the 400 was clocked at 1:14.83. Meleisha Vos was third in the 3,000 in 13:41.47 and Abby Squires finished third in the discus in 76 feet, 5 inches.
Dylann Huyser (29.51) was fourth in the 200, Elizabeth Elliott (19.39) finished fourth in the 100 hurdles and Vos (1:23.65) took fourth in the 400 hurdles.
Morgan Jones (12-10 1/2) and McFarland (12-8) were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the long jump and and Squires (25-9) finished sixth in the shot put. Brooke Conover (3:16.33) also placed sixth in the 800.
The Hawks won three relays — the 4x100, 4x800 and sprint medley.
The 4x100 team of James, Jones, McFarland and Huyser finished with a winning time of 55.55 seconds.
The sprint medley relay team included Jaden Brand, Huyser, Cally Gibbs and Alberts and they won in 2:02.41.
The 4x800 relay team of Van Zante, Tice, Cayler Noun Harder and Alberts finished first in 11:07.19.
The 4x200 and distance medley relay teams were both second. The 4x200 relay team of McFarland, Jones, Gibbs and Huyser finished in 1:58.84 and the distance medley relay foursome of Natalie Nikkel, James, Van Zante and Noun Harder were clocked in 5:21.28.
