NORWALK — Chassidy Henwood was part of both wins for Newton’s girls tennis team on Thursday.
Henwood won her singles match and paired with Katie McConnell to win at doubles, but the Cardinals lost 9-2 to the Warriors on the road during Little Hawkeye Conference play.
Henwood won her No. 2 singles match 6-3, 6-3 over Anya Kallenbach and then teamed up with McConnell to win 6-0, 7-5 over Kallenbach and Katie Larson at No. 2 doubles.
The Cardinals won just two matches but four of the six singles matches went to three sets. Three of the doubles losses were either three sets or decided by two games in each of the two sets.
Maggie Garrett lost her No. 1 singles match 6-7 (1), 6-1, 10-7. Lauryn Garrett lost at No. 3 singles 3-6, 6-4, 10-4. The two sisters teamed up at No. 1 doubles and lost 6-4, 6-4.
McConnell’s No. 4 singles match ended in a three-set loss, 5-7, 7-5, 10-8 and Megan Lovan lost 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 at No. 5 singles.
Ella Swarts and Olivia Hotchkin also lost a close doubles match 6-4, 7-5.
