C-M, L-S golf split SICL matchup

Tigerhawks take three medals in home meet with Hawks

COLFAX — Colfax-Mingo’s golf teams walked away with three of the four individual medals during a South Iowa Cedar League dual with Lynnville-Sully on Thursday.

It was only good enough for a split though as the C-M boys downed L-S but the Hawk girls were better than the Tigerhawks.

Neither matchup was close. The C-M boys downed L-S 208-232 as Jason Rhinehart was the medalist with a 39 and Jake Nichols shot a career-best 51 to finish as the runner-up.

“Jason is a steady golfer and continues to play well,” C-M golf coach Mike Underwood said. “Jake has been working hard on his putting in practice and he putted well tonight.”

In the girls matchup, L-S defeated Colfax-Mingo 236-257. Greenlee Smock of L-S was the medalist with a 43. C-M’s Kira Warrick shot a 59 to finish as the runner-up.

The rest of the C-M boys’ lineup included Shane Aikin (54), Cavan Magnuson (64) and Cale Duffy (69).

The L-S boys were led by C.J. Nikkel, who shot a 56. Keegan DeWitt (57), Luke Farrell (58) and Carsten James (61) were the other scoring golfers and Karter Smead (70) had a non-counting score.

Behind Smock for the L-S girls was Brooke Maston (60), Dakota Bokhoven (63) and Callista Hackert (70).

Colfax-Mingo’s other three scorers were Charlotte Donahue (65), Carley Underwood (66) and Brennan Rhone (67). Holland Robinette (68) had a non-counting score.

“I was proud of the girls team as of them improved their scores from our last meet,” Coach Underwood said.
