PCM boys finish fourth, L-S takes fifth at Pella Christian

Mustangs, Hawks face tough field at coed meet

PELLA — Boys track and field teams from PCM and Lynnville-Sully ran into a pair of powerhouse Class 3A programs on Tuesday during the Pella Christian Coed Invitational.

The lone win on the day came from Josh Hardenbrook as he led L-S to 58 points and a fifth-place finish.

PCM scored 76 points in fourth. Pella Christian (86.5) was 10.5 points better in third, while 3A ADM (203) and Pella (199) were at the top of the standings.

Pleasantville (46.5), Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (45) and Centerville (10) completed the eight-team field.

The Mustangs had seven top-five finishes. They were second in three relays and third in another.

In the shuttle hurdle relay, Justin Maggard, Trey Broderson, Gavin Fenton and Gatlin Boell finished second in 1 minute, 6.71 seconds.

The Mustangs also were second in the sprint medley and distance medley relays. In the sprint medley relay, Andrew Mitchell, Maggard, Jacob Van Winkle and Landon Fenton finished in 1:40.39 and the distance medley team of Mitchell, Maggard, Boell and Beau Webb finished in 3:54.94.

PCM’s 4x200 relay team of Landon Fenton, Mitchell, Kaden Hale and Carter Burns were third in 1:38.88.

Van Winkle finished fourth in the 100 in 11.8 seconds and Landon Fenton took fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:01.64. Ben Buys finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 120 feet, 6 inches, August Stock was sixth in the 400 in 58.94 and Carson Duinink took sixth in the 800 in 2:26.32.

The Hawks claimed six top-five individual finishes.

Hardenbrook’s win in the 200 was clocked at 23.82 and Corder Noun Harder was fourth in 24.15.

James Gruver finished third in the 400 hurdles in 1:01.51 and Blake Rea was sixth in 1:03.43. Carter Dunsbergen (16.68) was fifth in the 110 hurdles and Ryan Annee (18-2) finished fifth in the long jump.
