Baxter girls win home coed track meet

Colfax-Mingo wins two events, places sixth

BAXTER — For the second time this season, Baxter’s girls track and field team took a victory lap. But this time, the jog came inside the Bolts’ home venue.

Baxter won five events, four different athletes scored 10 or more points and the Bolts won the meet with 126 points. Colfax-Mingo also competed and finished sixth with 84.5 points.

The 10-team field included runner-up West Marshall (114.5), Collins-Maxwell (113), Madrid (94), South Hardin (91), Saydel (47), Gladbrook-Reinbeck (33), Colo-NESCO (23) and Ankeny Christian Academy (9).

Elie Tuhn won the 1,500- and 3,000-meter runs and anchored the 4x800 relay team to a victory. She accounted for 22.5 points.

Bree Buswell, Sophie Meyer and Mandee Selover scored at least 10.5 points each.

Buswell and Meyer were 1-2 in the 400 hurdles, they both helped the Bolts finish second in the shuttle hurdle relay and Selover secured three top-five finishes on the night.

Colfax-Mingo won two events and was second and third twice each. Carley Underwood won the 100 hurdles and McKayla Smith and Kyra Lester were 1-2 in the discus to lead the Tigerhawks.

Tuhn opened her night with a win in the 3,000 and 4x800 relay. She won the 3K in 12 minutes, 5.66 seconds.

The 4x800 relay team featured Kailee Conradi, Morgan Ratliff, Regan Russell and Tuhn and they finished in 11:25.12.

Tuhn later won the 1,500 in 5:28.01 and Russell finished third in 5:54.26.

Buswell and Meyer were 1-2 in the 400 hurdles with Buswell winning in 1:19.25 and Meyer finishing second in 1:21.39. Buswell also was fourth in the 100 hurdles in 18.53.

Maddie Pierce, Meyer, Carlee Zahurones and Buswell combined to finish second in the shuttle hurdle relay. They stopped the clock in 1:19.56.

The final win for the Bolts came in the distance medley relay. The team of Pierce, Meyer, Maggie Schabilion and Conradi finished in 4:54.21.

Conradi was third in the 800 in 2:43.9. Selover finished third in the long jump with a leap of 13-8 1/2, was fourth in the 400 in 1:07.91 and took fifth in the 200 with a time of 29.82.

Merrin Ziesman also was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 28-2 3/4. The sprint medley relay team of Pierce, Schabilion, Buswell and Selover were fourth in 2:07.

The Tigerhawks were dominant in the throwing events.

In the discus, Smith won with a throw of 95-10 and Lester was second with a toss of 95-8. They didn’t score team points for the finish but Olivia Uecker took fourth with a throw of 88-11.

Smith, Lester and Uecker went 2-5-6 in the shot put. Smith was the runner-up with a throw of 30-11. Lester (28-1) and Uecker (28-0) were fifth and sixth, respectively.

Underwood won the 100 hurdles in 18.09 and took sixth in the long jump with a leap of 13-6. Caylee Cunningham finished third in the high jump. Her best leap was marked at 4-4.

The Tigerhawks were third in the 4x100 and fourth in the 4x200, 4x400 and distance medley relays.

The 4x100 relay team of Kylie Doty, Ashton Byal, Madison Riddle and McKenna Pleima finished in 57.35.

The 4x200 team included Riddle, Cunningham, Mickayla Lind and Pleima and they finished in 2:02.2.

Underwood, Lind, Cunningham and Felicity Woods finished the 4x400 relay in 4:57.69.

In the distance medley, Doty, Byal, Danica Linn and Joslyn Dawson finished fourth in 5:31.3.
