Eagles post first best-of-five sweep over Hawks since 2014

KEOTA — Four players had at least three kills and the Lynnville-Sully volleyball team missed only two serves during its South Iowa Cedar League matchup against Keota on Monday.

But the Hawks couldn’t keep up with the Eagles on the road during a 25-23, 25-21, 25-13 loss.

It was the third straight win in the series for Keota, but the Eagles posted their first best-of-five sweep since 2014.

Kate Harthoorn totaled 13 assists, four kills and two digs, Penelope Robinson tallied two assists, seven kills and three digs and Tatum Huyser chipped in three kills, five digs and two blocks.

Ava Brummel put down six kills, Brooke Harthoorn dished out four assists, Olivia Beyer finished with eight digs and Brooke Hardeman added three digs and two aces.

Addison Collum and Jaelynn Vander Wilt both had two digs. The Hawks (7-11, 3-6 in the SICL) had a kill efficiency of .108. Kate Harthoorn had one hitting error in 23 attempts, Robinson missed two attacks in 23 tries and Brummel had three misses in 23 attempts.

Lynnville-Sully was 58-of-60 in serves with five aces. Both Kate Harthoorn and Hardeman were 10-of-10.

Olivia Lyle led Keota (9-9, 3-6) with 14 kills, while Elyse Lyle had 11 kills. Addison Purkeypile contributed 14 digs, Cameron Haifley totaled 13 digs and the Eagles registered a .300 kill efficiency and served up 13 aces.
