Visiting Hawks fall in SICL matchup with Lady Plainsmen

BELLE PLAINE — The Lynnville-Sully volleyball team was edged by the minimum number of points in two of its three sets against Belle Plaine on Thursday, and the Hawks lost to the Lady Plainsmen during a South Iowa Cedar League matchup.

Belle Plaine won the first and last sets by the score of 25-23 and finished off the sweep of the Hawks after a 25-15 win in the second game.

Lynnville-Sully had four fewer aces than Belle Plaine in the match, and the Hawks finished with a kill efficiency of only .029.

Ava Brummel highlighted the victory with six kills and four digs. Penelope Robinson chipped in three kills, six digs and two aces, Tatum Huyser added two assists, five kills and five digs and Kate Harthoorn chipped in 13 assists and four digs.

Olivia Beyer totaled 10 digs, Brilynn Tice tallied two kills and three digs, Brooke Harthoorn posted four digs, Brooke Hardeman had three digs and Addison Collum and Jaelynn Vander Wilt both registered two digs.

The Hawks (7-10, 3-5 in the SICL) were 56-of-62 in serves with four aces. Kate Harthoorn was 11-of-11, Vander Wilt finished 10-of-10 and Lori Yoder ended 9-of-9.

Kate Harthoorn is 153-of-160 in serves this season. Huyser made only two hitting errors in 26 chances and Robinson had two errors in 23 attempts.

Huyser leads the Hawks, who have lost three straight matches, with 117 kills and 238 digs and Robinson has a team-best 31 aces.

Belle Plaine (12-11, 5-2) is 15-7 against L-S since 2007. The Lady Plainsmen have won nine straight in the series.

Jules Stamp led the hosts with 10 kills and 10 digs. Allison Hoover totaled eight kills and four aces, Carly McLeod put down 11 kills and Annika Hultquist finished with 25 digs.

Belle Plaine was 55-of-63 with eight aces, and it had a kill efficiency of .310.
