Hawks can’t hold early lead against rival Warhawks

SULLY — Kate Harthoorn and Tatum Huyser filled up the stat sheet and the Lynnville-Sully volleyball team got off to a strong start against North Mahaska on Monday.

But the Warhawks remained near the top of the South Iowa Cedar League standings following a come-from-behind 16-25, 25-20, 25-15, 24-26, 15-9 road win.

Huyser led the Hawks with nine kills, four blocks, 16 digs, three assists and two aces and Harthoorn posted 22 assists, six kills and 13 digs in the loss.

Penelope Robinson totaled six kills, seven digs and four aces, Olivia Beyer had 15 digs and two assists, Ava Brummel chipped in three kills and four digs and Brilynn Tice tallied two kills and three digs.

Brooke Hardeman posted two digs and two aces, Morgan Hay and Brooke Harthoorn finished with eight digs and Rhylee Rodgers added two blocks.

The Hawks (7-9, 3-5 in the SICL) were 81-of-88 in serves with 10 aces. Kate Harthoorn served 16-of-16, Huyser was 12-of-12, Robinson finished 19-of-20 and Beyer was 9-of-10.

It was the Warhawks’ fourth straight win over Lynnville-Sully, and North Mahaska (10-6, 5-1) is 21-10 in the series since 2007.
