SULLY — Dawson James scored the game-winning touchdown on a 64-yard reception in the first quarter and JD Richards capped off a big home win against Madrid on Friday night.
The Hawks scored first and last and dumped the Tigers, 15-6, during a Class A District 6 contest.
The win puts Lynnville-Sully in the driver’s seat for the district championship, which would yield at least one home playoff game.

James’ 64-yard touchdown catch from Connor Deal midway through the first quarter gave the Hawks a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
Richards added the 2-point conversion run and then scored on a 6-yard TD run in the fourth to push the home team’s lead to two possessions.
Chase Perkins put Madrid on the board in the third with a 17-yard TD run. But that’s all the Tigers could muster in what could turn out to be the game that decides the district championship.
James led the Hawks (5-1, 4-0 in the district) with 23 yards on nine carries and the 64-yard TD on his only catch and added a team-best 9.5 tackles and one sack on defense.
Gavin Fisk ran for 70 yards on 19 carries and chipped in seven tackles, two tackles for loss and one fumble recovery.
