KEOTA — Lynnville-Sully’s boys’ basketball team couldn’t quite overcome a slow start and a tough shooting night led to a 49-47 loss to Keota on Thursday night during South Iowa Cedar League action.
The Eagles led 19-13 after one quarter, but the Hawks outscored Keota 34-30 the rest of the way.
“I liked the way the boys competed defensively,” L-S boys’ basketball coach Nick Harthoorn said. “It gave us a chance in a game where baskets were hard to find.”
L-S shot 30 percent from the floor, hit 7-of-26 from long range and made 10-of-11 from the foul line. The Eagles (14-1 overall, 12-1 in the SICL) shot 50 percent from the floor but were just 4-of-14 from 3-point range and committed 17 turnovers.
Corder Noun Harder had 13 points and eight assists and Preston Rodibaugh added 11 points and seven rebounds to lead the Hawks.
Conner Maston had 11 points and three rebounds, Klayton Van Dyke chipped in seven points and seven rebounds, Mason Rodibaugh added three points and three rebounds and Ryan Annee grabbed five boards.
The Hawks (9-5, 9-3) scored 11 bench points.
“Games like this challenge you in a lot of ways,” Harthoorn said. “I am confident this group of boys will learn from this experience and work to improve.”
