Otis Olin Henning

Otis Olin “Otie” Henning, age 86 of Prairie City, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022 at Taylor House in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 10:30 am at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 11:00 at the Scranton Cemetery in Scranton, Iowa with lunch for friends and family to follow at Grace Baptist Church in Glidden. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Prairie City EMS and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com

The son of Russie and Lemma (Lawrence) Henning, Otis was born on January 30, 1936 in Jefferson, Iowa. He graduated from Scranton High School in 1953. On August 16, 1964, he was united in marriage to Karen Brant at Grace Bible Church in Glidden. Otis managed the Famers Elevator Co-op in Scranton for 22 years. He then moved to Prairie City in 1985 and worked at the Prairie City Co-op retiring in 1999. He served on the school board in Scranton for 11 years. He enjoyed working the chain gang at high school football games and hanging out at Juergens Implement in Scranton. He also enjoyed tractor rides, anything that had to do with Agriculture, coffee time at Goldie’s and vacationing in Arizona. Otis was a member of the Prairie City United Methodist Church.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Karen; two daughters, Jackie (Mark) Krpan and Becky Curtis; three grandchildren, Travis (Jill) Curtis, Tyler (Maddie) Krpan and Mallory Krpan; three great grandchildren, Mason, Allison, and Hazel, and two former foreign exchange students, Marianne Palmer and Patricia Jaramillo. Preceding Otis in death were his parents, and siblings, Elvero Henning, Raymond Henning, Francis “Curly” Henning, and Ila Belle Henning and two brothers-in-law, Duane Brant and Larry Brant.
