It’s a movie experience unlike any other. The PCM Middle School PTO invites the communities to head to the high school stadium and take in a Movie Night Under the Stars.
The evening starts at 6:30 p.m. June 11 with a tailgate including a meal of a burger or hot dog, chips, dessert and beverage for $5 along with a variety of games. As the sun begins to set, the movie “Sandlot” will be played on the new video board, scheduled to start at 8 p.m.
“The idea came from our first PTO meeting last fall. It was one of the ideas the committee came up with for fundraisers. Jill (Witt), Meagan (Breckenridge), Angie (Clark) and I have been planning the event the last few months to raise money for the middle school,” PTO vice president Jessica Barnett said. “I am so excited to have the opportunity to use the scoreboard screen. There has never been an event like this held on the field.”
At the tailgate, local groups including the football team, dance team and Jasper County Farmhands 4-H club will be on hand to help out. The meat, which was donated by Nolin Red Angus and Wanders Farms, is being cooked and served by the Jasper County cattlemen.
As tailgate activities wind down, everyone can find a spot to lay out a blanket and take in the classic summer movie.
“The event is for any age. We chose the movie ‘Sandlot’ since it’s summer and baseball season. It is a fun-hearted movie for any age to enjoy,” Barnett said. “We will be serving popcorn and snacks at the event but guests are not allowed to bring the food down onto the field. Food is allowed at the concession stand, hillside or bleachers. Those areas are still a perfect view of the screen so spectators won’t miss out on the movie.”
The event is a fundraiser for the PTO, who hope to reach a goal of $10,000 for the 2020-2021 school year.
“We are optimistic this event will get us very close to obtaining that amount,” Barnett said. “We originally started fundraising to purchase a climbing wall for the middle school gym. It was a request Mr. Van Vark had asked us to assist him with. Since he is moving on we are hopeful the new principal will have a need or request for our fundraising dollars.”
