Progressive Victory at Iowa, a student organization at the University of Iowa, will be hosting an event Dec. 3. We will be moderating a town hall debate between the three Democratic House of Representative candidates for Iowa’s first congressional district: Christina Bohannan, Travis Terrell and Taylor Wettach. At the moment, neither Christina Bohannan nor Taylor Wettach have accepted Terrell’s challenge, but we are hopeful that they will. If they do not, the event will simply be a town hall for Terrell.
To go a bit more in depth about what we are as an organization, we are dedicated to pushing Iowa City and Iowa as a whole leftward. The primary way that we have been doing this is through electoral politics. We were a significant force behind the campaign for Clara Reynan, having knocked over 600 doors in total for her over the course of a month. We are also dedicated to protest. In fact, the first thing we did as an organization was attend the rally to save Iowa’s State Historical Society in August. We hope that this event will be the next big step we take towards our lofty goal of making Iowa blue.
This debate will be a fantastic opportunity to allow people to have their questions answered by their future representatives, as we will be accepting questions from the public in the lead up to it. Questions can be submitted by going to this link: https://forms.gle/e7EcWzHtxty8BW8q6
