For more than three decades, Iowa has led the way in renewable energy, thanks to strong leadership and a commitment to progress. As 2024 comes to a close, I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished and mindful of the opportunities ahead.
Iowa ranks first in the nation for the percentage of electricity produced by renewable energy, with over two-thirds of our power coming from wind and solar. This clean energy leadership not only secures our future but also makes Iowa an attractive destination for major business investments. Renewable energy has brought in hundreds of millions of dollars in investments and tax revenue, fueling economic growth statewide.
Newton is a shining example of how renewable energy investment can revitalize communities. The city plays a critical role in Iowa’s wind energy industry, with two local companies producing products for this growing sector. We’re especially excited to see wind turbine blade manufacturer TPI Composites resuming production, creating jobs and boosting the local economy as we look toward 2025.
Iowa’s ability to harness its natural resources gives us a competitive edge, providing clean energy that benefits residents and businesses alike. By continuing to invest in renewable energy, Iowa will remain a global leader in sustainability and innovation.
We have much to celebrate, and I look forward to building on this momentum for an even brighter 2025.
