Letter to the Editor: Put your money where your mouth is

How frustrating it must have been for those Jasper County veterans who attended that meeting with the Jasper County Veterans Affairs Commission to let those commissioners know how much they support the current administrator, Alyssa Wilson.

For those brave veterans to be there and realize those so-called “leaders” weren’t really listening to their concerns, but instead seemed to be just another group of do-nothing bureaucrats who are more interested in the bottom line than helping those who served our country had to be a slap in the face to them.

What does this group of commissioners actually do? Their response to what they heard from those veterans was to suggest more “studies” before deciding if more help is needed at the agency? That is what a weak person does who doesn’t really want to do anything to solve the issues those veterans were trying to make them aware of.

And how about our County Board of Supervisors? What’s their problem? Aren’t they all veterans? Why haven’t they stepped up to do the right thing by these vets? Sounds like they need to redirect their focus.

Jasper County is run by Republicans, and for all their rah-rah talk about “supporting our troops” and their incessant flag-waving, it seems that when push comes to shove, when it’s time to put their money where their mouths are and walk the walk, they hide behind some numbers on a spreadsheet?

So much for the talk about helping out veterans.

Ya’ll ought to be ashamed of yourselves.
