Letter to the Editor: Unsung heroes

Receiving the insert with regard to recycling recently gave me a chance to review whether or not I’m “up to date” on this important ecological practice, and to remind me what a terrific job Liz and Dave Dodd and their dedicated staff are doing to make our community a better place in which to live. But along this same line, I wanted to take a moment to draw readers’ attention to the fine folks at Newton Recycling Center, located two blocks south of Walgreens. Started by Jimmy Oldham of Monroe several years ago, management of this receiving site for empty beverage cans and bottles has been taken over by Steve Terlouw and employs a great team of hard-working sorters, headed by Caleb, Mark, Austin, Trey and others (sorry I don’t know all your names) who are ambitious, organized, speedy and friendly, doing work that isn’t easy to be sure. If you haven’t sought them out, I encourage you to do so to help with your disposable container needs. Their hours are Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until noon. Guys, I salute you and thank you for all you do; you’re truly AWESOME!
