Arnold William Christian Schmidt

On September 19, 2025, Arnold William Christian Schmidt died of natural causes at the age of 87.

Arnold was born on November 16, 1937 in Newton, Iowa to Henry and Vera (Hoy) Schmidt and attended Baxter High School, graduating in 1956.

Arnold joined the Army in 1959 and was deployed to West Germany. He worked as a medical supply specialist and was honorably discharged in 1961 at the rank of corporal.

After the Army, he left his parents’ farm and began farming independently north of Newton, Iowa.

Arnold met Marjorie Thomason and they married in 1963; they welcomed three children.

Arnold began working for Bisom Truck Line in the 80’s and was a proud member of the Moose Lodge #923.

Upon retirement, Arnold became a “Winter Texan” and thoroughly enjoyed the hot, balmy climate of McAllen, where he lived out his days.

Arnold was preceded in death by family members: Henry and Vera Schmidt, Albert Schmidt (Esther), and Arthur Schmidt.

He is survived by Marjorie, his wife of 61 years, his children, John Schmidt (Marcy), Heidi Wilson, and Holly Schmidt. His sister-in-law, Shirley Schmidt and numerous Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Grace Church (1620 N 11th Avenue E, Newton, Iowa 50208), on Saturday, November 15th.

Visitation is from 10-11 am. Followed by the service at 11-am with a meal to follow.
