Clark R. Hassig, 62, of Newton died Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at his home. Burial with military honors will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, September 26, 2025, at Newton Union Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow burial from 2-4 p.m., Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials in Clark’s name (please make checks payable to Debbie Hassig) can be brought to the celebration or left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Clark, the son of Clifford and Lillie (Stark) Hassig, was born July 27, 1963, in Des Moines. He grew up in Newton until enlisting in the Army at age 17. He served his country from 1980-1989, stationed in Colorado and then Germany. Clark then returned to Newton, where he was united in marriage with Debbie Tate on July 27, 1991. He worked as an over the road truck driver for many years before retiring from Crete Carrier. He was a certified judge for “Magic the Gathering.” Clark enjoyed his dog, riding his Harley, golfing, camping, fishing, hiking, and hunting morel mushrooms. Most of all, he enjoyed being a husband and a father, at which he excelled.
Clark is survived by his wife, Debbie Hassig of Newton; his son, Dalton Hassig (Myra Tew) of Newton; his sister, Linda Drew of Boone; his siblings-in-law, Dwaine Lester, Nikki Cain, and Sherrie (Brian) Davis; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law, Virginia Lester; and his brother, Jack Strickland.
