Janet Marie Sherlock

Janet Marie Sherlock, 69, passed into eternal rest on July 12, 2025, at Park Centre Memory Care in Newton, Iowa after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Janet was born the daughter of Arnold “Duke” and Joan Schnoebelen on January 31, 1956, in Newton, Iowa. She graduated from Newton Senior High School with the Class of 1974. Janet was united in marriage to Kevin Ray Sherlock on June 3, 1995, in Newton, Iowa. She was employed at Hy-Vee and Progress Industries before she retired at age 55. Janet devoted most of her life to raising and supporting her family. She enjoyed being active and was always on the go. She was a kid at heart who loved summer and cherished taking her grandchildren on different adventures to water parks, playgrounds, and lakes - often ending the day with a sweet treat as she had a well-known love for desserts. She was a great cook who made delicious meals and found comfort in sharing them. Janet loved and cared for everyone, and she especially enjoyed holiday gatherings with family. She had a light-hearted spirit and a playful sense of humor, always finding joy in bringing smiles to those around her.

Those left to honor the memory of Janet include her mother, Joan Schnoebelen of Newton, Iowa, daughters Michelle (Scott) Kurtz of Urbandale, Iowa, and Kristy Johnson of Iowa City, Iowa, son Josh Stogdill (Thamara Ortiz Colon) of Newton, Iowa, grandchildren Kamryn Kurtz, Kayden Kurtz, Drake Long (Chloe Forck), Lianna Stogdill, Keith Stogdill and Roxanna Almazan, great-grandchildren Nia Long and Eugene Long, brothers, David (Sheri) Schnoebelen of Idaho and Don (Deb) Schnoebelen of Alabama, sister, Laura (Nick) Thompson of Montana, sister-in-law Betty Schnoebelen of Michigan, as well as nieces, nephews and extended family.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband Kevin Sherlock, her father Arnold “Duke” Schnoebelen, and brothers Steve Schnoebelen and Jeff Schnoebelen.

A private family burial service will be held at a later date. In appreciation for the compassionate care Janet received during her illness, memorial contributions can be made in her name to Wesley Life Hospice or Park Centre Memory Care. Donations may be left with Pence-Reese Funeral Home.
