Christopher “Chris” Evans Winfield, 78, of Baxter, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Fredregill Funeral & Cremation Care, 107 N. Main Street, in Baxter. Immediately following, his visitation a graveside burial will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Rhodes with Deacon Jim Kurten officiating.

Chris was born on November 7, 1946, in Bronx, New York, to Edward and Teresa (D’Annucci) Winfield. He grew up in Brewster, New York where he attended and graduated from Brewster High School with the class of 1964. Following school, he enlisted in the Army where he was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Conflict. After he was honorably discharged, in 1970, he moved to Seattle, Washington and began his long career at the United States Post Service. Chris was previously married to Bonnie Jo Winfield and they had three children, Robyn, Anthony, and Teresa. He later met Teresa Evans while working a side gig at a bar. The couple was married in 1978 and the couple moved to Collins, Iowa where they began their family together in 1985. Chris relocated with the Post Office and remained working there until his retirement in 2001. Once he retired he began working in the Collins Library and loved being surrounded by books.

Chris was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He loved spending time with his family but especially adored his grandchildren and being their grandpa. Chris also enjoyed reading, baseball, puzzles, and going to the movies. Chris spent a majority of his time doting on his granddaughter’s, Brianna and Emily, whether it was watching movies or enjoying baseball together.

Chris is survived by his children Robyn (Helen) Winfield of London, England, Teresa Winfield of Seattle, WA, Ian Winfield of Baxter, IA, and Paddy (Katina) Evans of Newton, Iowa; grandchildren Brianna, Emily, Drea, Bella, and Aria; brother Bruce (Kathie) Winfield; in-laws John (Peg) Evans of Collins, IA and Barry (Sue) Evans of Alleman, IA; and many close nieces, nephews, and friend.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents, wife Teresa, son Anthony, brother Ed, and mother-in-law Darlene Evans.

In death, Chris lives on with the donation of bone, tissue, skin, and sight to help others. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Iowa Donor Network.
