Anna Marie Lockman

Anna Marie Lockman (Smaniotto) was born on July 15 th , 1933, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Lena and Valentino Smaniotto. She married Ronald Lee Lockman on February 18th, 1956, in Centerville, Iowa, and celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary in 2005 before Ron’s death later that year. Anna passed away at the age of 91 in her home in Littleton, Colorado, from lung cancer on June 19th, 2025, with her family by her side.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Lee Lockman; son, Edward Eugene Lockman; two brothers, Donald and Raymond Smaniotto; and sister, Marilyn Brodersen. Anna is survived by her daughter, Debra Fox; her three grandchildren, Jake, Ben, and Matthew Fox; her youngest brother, Eugene Smaniotto, and her many nieces and nephews, many of whom considered her their “favorite aunt”.

Anna – known to her grandsons as Noni – was a gifted storyteller, and often shared memories of life on her family’s farm in Seymour, Iowa. As a child, she would rise before dawn to help her father milk the cows before riding a horse (named Sparkle) bareback on the seven mile journey to school. She learned to bake and make cheese from her mother, and often joined her brothers in the fields to shoot pheasant for dinner. In her teens and twenties, she helped raise her younger sister, Marilyn, and brother, Eugene, even while working her first job off the farm as a bookkeeper for Iowa Southern Utilities.

From her formative years until the end of her life, Anna always placed her family first. This was exemplified by the nearly three decades of tireless care she provided her son, Ed, who suffered a debilitating spinal cord injury as a teenager, as well as the love she gave her husband, daughter, and three grandchildren. Noni was beloved by her grandsons, who would sneak away to her home between classes in high school for lunch, watch westerns on her signature floral davenport, and take her out for ice cream on summer evenings. Always social and outgoing, others may have known her for always showing up impeccably dressed, her dancing with her husband on the weekends, her love of George Strait and Johnny Cash, and the world-class cream and berry pies she would bake for friends and family. Throughout her life, including in her final years in her community at Riverpointe, Anna remained stubbornly positive, exuding joy and hope even amid hardship; hers was an example all of us can aspire to.

A graveside service will be held for Anna at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 26th, at Fairview Cemetery (1000 S. 26th St. Colorado Springs, CO 80904); Livestream on the Feldman Mortuary YouTube channel.

In memory of Anna, whose spirit continues to bloom brightly, please honor her memory by planting a flower in your garden in lieu of sending floral arrangements.
