Phyllis D. Snook, the daughter of Lyle E. and Vera G. (Allen) Davis, was born January 17, 1930, in rural Melrose, Iowa. She graduated from the Newton Senior High School with the class of 1948.
On May 21, 1950, Phyllis was united in marriage with Burton R. Snook at the First United Methodist Church in Newton, Iowa. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Newton Motor Inn for many years. Phyllis enjoyed all kinds of social activities including her time with the D.A.R., Mother’s Night Out Club, the Florida Fun Fun group, playing bridge, Newton Cardinal games, shopping, and most of all, spending time with family. Family vacations at Clear Lake became a 63 year tradition, starting with 5 people and growing to 46.
Phyllis died on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at Park Centre in Newton, Iowa. She was 94 years old. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Burton; her sister, Colette McDonald; and her brother, Rex Davis.
Those left to honor Phyllis’ memory include her daughters, Diane Clement (Steve Hanson), Susan (Rod) Simpson, and Nancy (Bill) Rhodes; her nine grandchildren; and twenty great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church in Newton, Iowa. A Facebook Live broadcast will begin at 11:00 a.m. on the Pence Reese Funeral Home and Cremation Services Facebook page. A visitation with the family will be prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Memorials may be designated to Wesley Life Hospice or the First United Methodist Church and may be left at the church or at Pence Reese Funeral Home.
