Timothy Ettelson

Timothy “Tim” Ettelson, 75, of Hudson, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

Tim was born on April 26, 1949, in Grinnell, son of Lyle Sr., and Darlene Casady Ettelson. He graduated from Newton High School in 1967 and obtained his bachelor’s degree in education from Central College in Pella in 1974.

He married Teri Kober on July 18, 1980, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City.

Tim was a middle school teacher for 35 years, mostly at Hudson, but including four years at West Branch. He also coached wrestling and golf at Hudson, leading the boys golf team to state championships in 1995 and 1996, and serving as an assistant coach for the 2003 and 2004 state wrestling championship teams. He was inducted into the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Hall of Fame in 2012. He led a life of passion and dedication to his family and his community.

He is survived by his wife, Teri of Hudson; five children, Jon (Monica) Ettelson of Dana Point, CA, Jared (Amy) Ettelson of Glenwood Springs, CO, CJ (Dasha) Ettelson of Aurora, CO, Charlie (Tiffany) Ettelson of Denver, CO, and Mandy Ettelson of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren, Jessi, Stephen, Hunter, Bryce, Reece, Kira, Lyla, and Rylee; two great-grandchildren, Marlowe and Finn; a sister, Lynda Collins, and a brother, Ed (Linda) Ettelson, both of Newton.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Avenue, Waterloo. Tim was never one to dress up for an occasion. In his honor, please dress casually or wear your favorite golf or Hudson Pirates shirt. Memorials may be directed to the family.
