Alton Gene Snetselaar

Alton Gene Snetselaar, age 78 of Altoona, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023, at Edencrest at Tuscany in Altoona.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Altoona United Methodist Church.  Burial will take place at Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.  The family will greet friends on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at the Altoona United Methodist Church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to  the family in loving memory of Gene and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com

The son of Gysbert and Maude Claudine (Anderson) Snetselaar, Gene was born on December 24, 1944 in Des Moines, Iowa.  He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1963.  On September 2, 1966, he was united in marriage to Linda Kay Tysseling.  Gene and Linda made their home in Prairie City on the farm from 1966 until the early 1990′s then moved into Prairie City until they moved to Altoona in 2015.  Gene owned and operated Prairie Ag Supply beginning in 1984.  During this time he had the privilege to work side by side with his son Kevin.  Gene served in the United States Air National Guard and was a member of the Altoona United Methodist Church.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife of almost 56 years, Linda; children, Mindy Annette (Mark) Deere, Scott Alan (Malin) Snetselaar, and Kevin (Tracy) Snetselaar; grandchildren, Haley Deere, Jacob Deere, Denise Snetselaar, Alexandra Snetselaar, Ellie Snetselaar and Brady Snetselaar and two great grandchildren, Jacoby Snetselaar and Noah Snetselaar.  Preceding Gene in death were his parents.
