Laurie Ann Wallace, 61, of Newton, died Thursday, March 30, 2023, at her home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Monday, April 3, 2023, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the ARL of Iowa or the Salvation Army of Jasper County can be left at the funeral home.

Laurie, the daughter of Everett Laverne Wallace and Mary Louise Beard, was born February 3, 1962, in Des Moines. She lived in Des Moines until moving to Tennessee in 1990.  She had worked at T.G.I. Fridays, had been a carpet layer, and had also worked at Airride when she lived in Tennessee. When she moved to Newton, she volunteered at the Salvation Army. She was part of the Salvation Army’s quilting club, The Quarter Inch Quilters, where she had also served as the club president. She was a talented quilter, making everything from table decorations to wall hangings.  Laurie also did leatherwork, doing embossing and making wallets, purses, and saddle bags. She also loved animals, and treated her pets like they were her children.

Laurie is survived by her father, Everett (Janice) Wallace of Newton; her mother, Mary Louise O’Neill of Arkansas; her siblings: Bryan J. Williams of Newton, Eric T. (Kelly) Wallace of Sully, Kevin K. Wallace of Newton, Nick R. (Brandy) Wallace of Newton, and Christine L. (Kurt) Jungck of Grimes; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Brian D. Wallace; stepfather, Carl O’Neill; and her maternal and paternal grandparents, Cletis and Dorothy (Porter) Beard and Everett Sr. and Ellen (Sanders) Wallace
