Robert (Bob) Dewar

Sept. 6, 2022

Robert (Bob) Dewar, 82, of Apache Junction, AZ, went peacefully to his heavenly home on September 6th, 2022, at Mountain Vista Medical Center.

Bob was born on July 22, 1940, to John and Hazel Dewar in Port Credit, Ontario Canada; he graduated from Banting Memorial High School in 1958. In 1963, Bob left his home country of Canada and became a Permanent Resident of the United States, residing in Newton, Iowa until well into his retirement years.

Bob held a variety of jobs, until he found insurance sales. This would become his work for more than 30 years. Along with his wife, June, they opened and operated their own multi-line insurance office, Dewar Insurance Agency, which they ran for 20 years, until their retirement.

Through his work, he received numerous recognitions and awards for his hard work in sales. He was a member of and was actively involved in the First Assembly of God Church in Newton, served on the Board of Directors for Teen Challenge, and worked diligently in the prison ministry outreach program. He had a passion for sharing God’s word and took great pride in helping those who needed guidance, to become followers of Christ. Bob enjoyed bowling, playing racket ball, and shooting pool, but his all-time favorite was golf.

After retiring in 2000, they enjoyed traveling in their motorhome and spending winters in various southern locations, until finally choosing to call Apache Junction their home. Once in Arizona, he would continue to play golf, and enjoy the occasional pool game with friends. While there, Rock Church would become his new church family and he enjoyed attending as much as possible.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Peter Dewar; brother-in-law, John Gower and his grandson, Ryan Mohler.

He is survived by his wife, June; his sister, Mary Gower of Trenton, Ontario; children, Bobbie Larsen of Woodland Park, CO; Jackie Carlson of Newton; Leeanne Mohler of Enterprise, AL; Nancy Ainsworth of Swansboro, NC; Cathy Moss of Newton; Mike Stout of Newton; Susan Dewar of Cornelius, NC and Steven Dewar of Rockton, IL. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Bob loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, but above all, he loved serving the Lord
