Ronald William Mahl passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 14th, 2022. Ron was born on April 13, 1946, in Newton, Iowa. He was the son of Elmer and Elmeda (Carpenter) Mahl. Ron grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1964.  He attended United Electronics Institute in Des Moines, Iowa, and after graduating, went to work for McDonnell Douglas. He was then hired by Honeywell, Inc. in 1968 to work on computers. He was with Honeywell for 11 years until founding his own company, International Systems, Inc. in 1979 in Vancouver, Washington. He was the owner and President of International Systems until his retirement in 2015.

In 1965 he married Nancy McPherren in Newton and they had 3 children, Jon, Timothy, and Amy Mahl. In 1975, he married Donna Lambert in Nashua, Iowa at the Little Brown Church in the Vale. They were married for 39 years until her death in 2014.  Together they had two children Stephen and Matthew Mahl.  Ron had many hobbies, including hunting, fishing, camping, boating, and pretty much anything outdoors. He was an expert at building and fixing things, and in his retirement he spent much of his time working on remodeling projects at his condo or helping his friends and family with anything they needed. He loved to have fun and will be fondly remembered for his love of Hawaiian shirts, cigars, and Jimmy Buffett music. Ron was so loved by his many friends and family and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his children:  son Jon of Newton, son Tim (Amy) of Newton, son Steve (Christine) of Bend, Oregon, daughter Amy (Brent Gregurek) of Johnston, and son Matt of Vancouver, Washington; grandchildren Joseph Mahl, Alex Mahl, Josh (Kayla) Mahl, Hunter Mahl, Madison Gregurek, Makenna Gregurek, Marlo Mahl, Noelle Mahl, Norah Mahl, Hannah Gregurek; and great-grandchildren Holdyn Mahl, Carson Mahl, Maverick Mahl, and Oliver Mahl.  He is also survived by his Uncle Gerald Carpenter of Newton, his beloved Carpenter cousins, and his friend and companion, Janna Beth Birkenholtz of Pleasant Hill. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Donna Mahl, his parents, Elmer and Elmeda Mahl, and his many aunts and uncles. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends after the service until 5:00 p.m. at a reception at the funeral home. Memorials in Ron’s name (checks made payable to Amy Gregurek) may be left at the funeral home.
