Michel “Mike” Dale Patterson, 71, of Kellogg died on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at his home. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 5, 2022, at the Kellogg Fire Station. The family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials to the Kellogg Fire Department or Hospice of the Midwest may be left at the funeral home or at the celebration of life.
Mike, the son of Kenneth and Evelyn (Scarborough) Patterson, was born on July 16, 1950 in Munich, Germany. As a part of an Air Force family, Mike lived in many locations growing up. As a teen his family returned to Iowa and Mike graduated from Newton High School in 1968. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was awarded a Purple Heart. On June 16, 1973, Mike was united in marriage with Jane Woody in Kellogg. Mike began working at the Maytag Company shortly after high school and would work there for the next 30 years as a truck mechanic, retiring in 1998. After retiring, Mike worked seasonally for the DNR at Rock Creek and also part-time for the city of Kellogg.
For over 40 years, Mike proudly served on the Kellogg Volunteer Fire Department; serving as Fire Chief for several years. He also was an avid reader, enjoyed camping, relaxing, and tinkering around his house. Mike loved children and all the kids in Kellogg knew him.
Mike is survived by his wife, Jane Patterson of Kellogg; daughter, Jennifer Prough of Grinnell; two grandchildren, Chase Strovers of Mitchellville and Carley Strovers of Grinnell; her siblings, Roy (Deborah) Patterson of Post Falls, Idaho and Gail (Ron) Clark of Grinnell; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and beloved grandma, Gladys Scarborough.
