Ellen Moon

Jan. 22, 2022

Ellen Moon entered into the presence of her Savior on Saturday evening, January 22, 2022, at her home at Newton Village.

Ellen Moon, 99, the daughter of James Alfred and Estelle (Gosnell) Larsen, was born October 10, 1922, in Fontanelle, Iowa. She was a graduate of the Knoxville Senior High School, Class of 1939.

Funeral services for Ellen will be 10:30am, Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, with a visitation 9am until 10:30am, just prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton, to Hope Ministries in Des Moines or to a charity of your choosing. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.

On June 7, 1942, Ellen was united in marriage with George Frederick Moon in Unionville, Missouri. She had devoted her life to her family and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. George was inducted into the service soon after they were married, and they didn’t get to celebrate an anniversary together until their third year of marriage. Their children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews never tired of the stories they told of their adventurous travels as newlyweds during George’s years in the service.

Ellen always had a sparkle in her eye, was quick with her wit and appreciated a good joke. She gave big squeezes when she left and was always sure to let her family know how much she loved them. She and George had attended and were active in the Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton. Her faith in God and her loving and devoted husband were the keys to her longevity.

A Facebook Broadcast of the Funeral service for Ellen will be held at 10:30am, Wednesday, on the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home and Cremation Services Facebook page.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son George F. Moon II on May 10, 2018; and her brothers: Ted and Merle Larsen.

Those left to honor Ellen’s memory include the love of her life for the last 79 years, husband George; her daughter Melody (David) Bonenberger; her daughter-in-law Faye Moon; her grandchildren: James Collin Moon, Karen Moon and Rachel Moon; five great-grandchildren: Evan Moon, Ethan Moon, Easton Moon, Kaelie Spallholtz and Austin Moon Raabe; and her many extended family and friends
