Marion D. Willemsen passed away Monday, Oct. 25, 2021, at Newton Health Care.

A time of remembrance and celebration of life will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28 at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, who has been entrusted with the arrangements. A visitation will be just prior to the service, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, facemasks are encouraged. In lieu of flowers, and as an expression of sympathy, memorials may be designated to MercyOne Hospice or Marion’s family.

Marion Dale Willemsen, 89, was born May 18, 1932, near Prairie City, the son of Dick and Gertie (Dop) Willemsen. He was a graduate of the Monroe High School, Class of 1950. Marion had served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

On Jan. 9, 1957, Marion was united in marriage to Wanda R. Van Gorp in Kellogg. He was a member of the Monroe American Legion Post.

Marion had devoted his life to his family and friends. Over the years he was employed as an electrician for Coyne Electric, for the Vernon Company for 23 years in the maintenance department prior to starting his own business and retiring in 1998.

Marion is survived by his brothers-in-law, Eldred Van Gorp and Carroll (Lois) Van Gorp; several nieces and nephews; and his many good neighbors and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wanda on Jan. 13, 2018; his sister, Margaret J. Hammer; and his brothers, Harold and Richard.
