Daniel James Sharp

Oct. 10, 2021

Daniel James Sharp, 63, often nicknamed “Sharpy” passed away Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021, at his home in Douds.

Danny was born July 12, 1958, in Grinnell, to James and Norma Jean Sharp. He was proudly their first born child and gave them so much joy. The Sharp family later moved to Newton in the early 1960s where they raised their family. Danny flourished in his teenage years and was an excellent athlete while attending Newton Senior High School. Lettering in multiple sports, including football, he was a star athlete and took his team to the win many times. Danny also loved boxing and won a Golden Gloves Boxing title in his youth. During his senior year, he was offered a college scholarship in Missouri which he attended.

Throughout his working career, Danny followed in his father’s footsteps and was a proud Maytag employee in Newton for 25 years. He also worked at Jeld Wen Company in Grinnell for several years until his retirement in 2020.

Everywhere Danny went he made friends. He was a very charismatic person and people were always drawn to him. His kind, generous and gentle spirit will be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him. Danny was a fan of many genres of music, especially the Blues. A faithful listener of KGGO’s “Andre’s Roadhouse” which airs every Sunday morning is where you would always find him. He was a proud member of the South Skunk Blues Society and looked forward to the Bowl Full of Blues concert each year. One of Danny’s most loved collections was his huge stack of vinyl records. And if you were Danny’s family or friend you could always count on him to call you when his favorite music, movie, documentary, etc. was being aired. “It’s on now!” he would enthusiastically acclaim.

Those left to remember and honor Danny’s life are his wife, Tammy Sharp; his beloved mother, Norma Jean Sharp; son, Brandon Evans (Heather); grandson, Christian; sister, Maria (Dan) Ingle; brother, Joe (Erin) Sharp; nephew, Colin; nieces, Carli, Lea and Cameron; and his many friends, including Deana Williams who was his soul sister.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Sharp; and grandparents, Issac Sharp and Bonnie Smith Sharp.

Cards and personal messages may be sent to the Sharp Family, 14552 Washington St., Douds, IA 52551. Any contributions in Danny’s memory, would be appreciated to the South Skunk Blues Society, P.O. Box 951, Newton, IA 50208. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
