Doris Jane Birkenholz, 86, was born Nov. 2, 1934, in Knoxville, the daughter of Lloyd and Wilda Mae (Myers) Kingery. Jane was a graduate of the Newton Senior High School, Class of 1952.

On July 26, 1952, Jane was united in marriage to Henry C. “Hank” Birkenholz in Elkton, Md. Jane devoted her life to her family and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Over the years she and Hank enjoyed spending many summers at their cabin in Minnesota and their winters in Mesa, Ariz. She enjoyed fishing, ping pong, Sunday afternoon card games (with popcorn), DIY projects on real estate, baking (especially chocolate chip cookies), yard work, her flowers and a clean car.

Jane died Monday afternoon, Sept. 13, 2021, at Newton Village Health Care. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hank on March 29, 2015; her twin sister, Deloris Ann and her husband Harlan Holdefer; and her brother, Arnold and his wife Shirley Kingery.

Doris is survived by her sons, Larry Dean (Lynette) Birkenholz of Newton, Daniel L. (Ronda) Birkenholz of Newton and Scott J. Birkenholz of Mesa, Ariz.; her grandchildren, Ryan Birkenholz (Becky Soderholm), JD (Sarah) Birkenholz, Renee (Rod) Hidalgo, Lisa (Kyle) Jurgensen and Dallas (CJ) Crow; her great-grandchildren, Addison Birkenholz, Jackson Birkenholz, Ryder Birkenholz, Sutton Birkenholz, Camille Hidalgo, Jazelle Hidalgo, Preston Hidalgo, Drew Jurgensen and Lauren Jurgensen, Genevieve Crow; and her many good neighbors and friends.

A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Visitation with the family present will be from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be designated to the Jane Birkenholz family and made payable to Dan Birkenholz.
