Linda Lou (Bowers) Zegers was born Jan. 13, 1944, to Dean and NoraBelle (Smith) Stacy. She passed away March 22, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
Linda grew up in Newton and was a graduate of Newton High School. On July 6, 1963, she was united in marriage to Darrell Gene Zegers in Newton. To this union, they were blessed with four daughters, Deena, Darci, Dori and Deidra.
Linda’s greatest desire was to be a mother and to create for her daughters a better childhood than her own. Linda worked for the Sully Health Center and Pella Regional as a receptionist for many years. In her retirement, she began every day with several cups of coffee and a bear claw (delivered by Darrell) while she read the entire Des Moines Register. She was involved with the National Alopecia Areata Foundation. Linda enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Sully Garden Thyme Club. She also enjoyed connecting with friends on FaceBook, traveling with her cousins and going to California. Linda cherished time with her family and she presided over monthly “Zegers Family Funday” with her kids and grandkids.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Darrell; four daughters, Deena McNertney, Darci and Kendall Jansen, Dori Robinson, Deidra Zegers-Marshall and Jeff Marshall; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild due in April. She is also survived by her sister, Dolores Flanders; and her brother, George Bowers; as well as many family and friends. Linda was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, VirginiaLee, Richard Bowers, Stanley Bowers, Roger Bowers and Nora Jean Shively.
A memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 26 at theFirst Reformed Church in Sully. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 25 at the Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella. Memorials may be given to the National Alopecia Areata Foundation.
