Douglas Keith Versteegh, 62, of Newton, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 3 at Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 2 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family is requiring masks to be worn during all services. Memorials in Doug’s name (checks made payable to Jocile Versteegh) may be left at the funeral home.

Doug, the son of Ken and JoAnn (Gordon) Versteegh, was born Feb. 16, 1959, in Des Moines. He grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1978. Doug was united in marriage with Jocile McFarland on April 14, 1979, at the Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton. He worked at TPI, Iowa Speedway and previously for the Maytag Company. He also was a volunteer fireman in Newton for many years. Doug was an active member at the Community Heights Alliance Church being involved in leading youth group and running the sound system.

Doug is survived by his wife, Jocile Versteegh of Newton; children, Jessica Smith (Eric Bacon), Joshua (Katelyn) Versteegh and Jacob Versteegh (Kristen Owens); grandchildren, Samantha Smith, Braven Bird, Zachary Versteegh, Vada Versteegh, Shayla Owens, Emma Bacon, Aubrey Bacon and Drew Bacon; his parents, Ken and JoAnn Vesteegh of Newton; and siblings, Rhonda Nemmers of Earlham and Brad (Stephanie) Versteegh of Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.
