Jasper County requesting changes to select farm-to-market routes

Supervisors earlier this month signed off on a resolution requesting modifications to Jasper County’s farm-to-market roads system.

According to documents included in the Dec. 2 agenda, the county wants to remove 27.7 miles of its farm-to-market and add another 27.3 miles to the system. In order to make the changes, County Engineer Michael Frietsch said an application must be turned in the Iowa Department of Transportation.

From there the request is sent to the farm-to-market review board. Iowa Code dictates that members of this board are to be appointed by the Iowa County Engineers Association. The board reviews any and all farm-to-market system modification proposal and makes the final administrative determinations.

“I will also send them the list of revisions as far as what segments we’re adding and deleting, and I’ll send them the map,” Frietsch said. “There’s also a letter that I will end up sending them because they want a county engineer’s report regarding the justification for every single change. I’ve got that written up too.”

Supervisors approved the resolution requesting changes to the farm-to-market system in a 2-0 vote. Supervisor Doug Cupples was absent and could not vote.
