Following the success of a Purple Wave-hosted auction of surplus secondary roads equipment earlier this year, the Jasper County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, Dec. 9 decided to move ahead with yet another auction for old equipment no longer used by two departments.
Nicole Williams, assistant to the engineer, presented the Purple Wave agreement to the board of supervisors at their meeting this week. She said the secondary roads department is selling its belly dump trailer while the maintenance department is selling a semi-trailer and a mower.
When the auction has concluded, two checks will be made to the county for the equipment: one to the engineer’s office and the other to maintenance.
The board of supervisors approved the agreement in a 3-0 vote.
In February, the Kansas-based auction company was utilized to sell surplus equipment. The company not charging the county for selling the equipment was a huge selling point for the county engineer and supervisors. The buyer is charged a fee while the county gets the remaining proceeds from the sale.
Purple Wave has been hosting auctions for more than 20 years, specializing in equipment liquidation through no-reserve internet auctions. The company handles all the marketing and outreach for the sales. The buyers are responsible for transporting the items, but Purple Wave also offers shipping services.
