Two men charged for burglarizing construction site north of Kellogg

Law enforcement says men drove bulldozer damaging county and state roads

Two men on probation and parole from the Iowa Department of Corrections were arrested Saturday, Nov. 15 for having stolen construction site materials in their possession, according to a press release from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. Both men have been charged with several felonies.

The county sheriff’s office was called to a motorist assist at approximately 3:12 p.m. near the 14700 block of Highway 6 East, just west of Grinnell. Upon arrival, a Jasper County deputy located a bulldozer and a pickup truck on the shoulder of the highway facing the wrong way against traffic.

Three males were identified at the scene: Charles Loudermilk, 57; Michael Pearson, 53; and Michael Provin, 73.

Law enforcement discovered the steel-tracked bulldozer had traveled from an area northeast of Newton on county roads and state highways, causing a significant amount of damage. Officers also found numerous items in the truck identified as missing property reported from a construction site north of Kellogg.

Grinnell Police Department, Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office and Jasper County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the Loudermilk’s residence in Grinnelll. During the execution of the warrant, police recovered more items missing from the burglarized construction site.

Officers also found a 9mm handgun and a .38 handgun in the pickup Loudermilk was operating. Loudermilk is a felon currently on parole from prison.

Loudermilk has been charged with second-degree burglary (Class C felony), second-degree theft (Class D felony) and two counts of control of a firearm as a felon (Class D felony). Traffic and criminal mischief charges for the damages done to the county and state roads with the bulldozer are pending.

Pearson has also been charged with second-degree burglary (Class C felony), second-degree theft (Class D felony), two counts of control of a firearm as a felon (Class D felony), possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor) and violation of a probation warrant.

Provin was charged with driving while suspended for non-payment of Iowa fine (simple misdemeanor), driving while suspended for incapable of operating a motor vehicle safely (simple misdemeanor), driving while barred (aggravated misdemeanor) and failing to have SR-22 insurance of file (simple misdemeanor).

However, only Loudermilk and Pearson were taken into custody. Provin was released to appear at a later date.
