Vernon volunteers join Habitat for Humanity to build Newton home

Members of The Vernon Company home office team volunteered to build a new home for a family Oct. 24 in Newton. The volunteers helped install roof trusses and fascia boards.

The Vernon Company volunteers and the Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity teamed up Friday, Oct. 24, to help build a new home in Newton. The Vernon crew spent the day installing roof trusses and fascia boards, contributing both time and talent to the project.

Eighteen Vernon volunteers worked across two shifts, contributing a total of 62 volunteer hours. Chris Vernon, President and CEO of The Vernon Company, was among those lending a hand.

“A big thank you to our 18 Vernon volunteers who spent Friday lending a hand to the new Newton Habitat home. The future homeowner was truly touched by everyone’s effort to help make her dream home a reality. It was a fun, rewarding day,” Vernon said.

In addition to the hard work on-site, Habitat representatives shared their appreciation for the Vernon team’s involvement, noting how meaningful it was to connect with everyone in person.

The combination of Vernon’s financial support and volunteer participation has a significant impact on the organization’s efforts to strengthen the local community.

“The Vernon Company volunteers were absolute rockstars,” said Becca Decker, Community Partnership Coordinator with Habitat for Humanity. The new homeowners are excited for their new home, ready to plan their bedrooms and have lots of extra space. A celebration will be held when the project is completed.
