From Dubuque to Selma and Beyond

Thursday, Nov. 13, 5:30 p.m.

Join author Dave Markward as he shares his journey of personal transformation; going from an exclusively white upbringing in Dubuque to a life enriched by diversity. In his latest memoir, “From Dubuque to Selma and Beyond: My Journey to Understand Racism in America,” Dave delves into the complex world of racism and shares his unwavering belief in humanity and the power of education to effect change. Copies of “From Dubuque to Selma & Beyond” will be available for purchase at the event. This program is free to attend and open to the public.

Acrylic Holiday Paint-Along Class

Monday, Nov. 17, 5:30 p.m.

Join local artist, Kirsten Warrick, for an acrylic paint-along class at the library! Attendees are encouraged to bring an apron; all other materials will be provided. Registration is required to attend. Library cardholder registration opens Nov. 10. Non-cardholders are welcome to register beginning Nov. 12. Call the library at 641-792-4108 to register. Ages 18+

Gory Stories Book Club

Tuesday, Dec. 2, noon

Do you love true crime? Join our monthly Gory Stories Book Club! Bring your lunch and join other true crime addicts to discuss a new book each month and share our favorite books, podcasts, & documentaries! Copies of the book can be picked up at the library information desk. The December book selection is “The Cadaver King and the Country Dentist” by Radley Balko.

Holiday Watercolor Class

Tuesday, December 2, 5:30 p.m.

Join local artist, Kris Peed, for a holiday themed watercolor painting class at the library! Participants will make watercolor Christmas cards and gift tags. Attendees are encouraged to bring an apron; all other materials will be provided. Registration for library cardholders opens Nov. 17. Non-cardholders are welcome to register beginning Nov. 19. Holiday Toy Swap

Monday, Dec. 8, 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Trade in your gently used children’s toys and pick out some new-to-you gifts, just in time for the holidays! Drop off the toys your child has outgrown at the library Dec. 1 - 6 and receive a ticket for each donated toy (maximum of 10 tickets). Bring back your tickets on Dec. 8, to attend the swap and pick out some new toys to take home! Donated toys should be clean and in good condition. We cannot accept stuffed animals or fabric toys. Photos with Santa & Mrs. Claus

Thursday, Dec. 11, 5 – 7 p.m.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the Library on Dec. 11 to take pictures with children in the library’s photo drop setup. Stop by anytime between 5 and 7 p.m. to visit Santa and Mrs. Claus and take your own pictures with your own phone or camera.
