Melissa Dalton will continue to serve on the Newton City Council for four more years, according to preliminary results from the county auditor’s office.
According to preliminary results released by the Jasper County Auditor’s Office on Election Night, Dalton received 238 votes for the Ward 2 seat. Dalton ran unopposed, which is unlike her first introduction to city elections in 2021 where the result was decided by a margin of 24 votes.
In 2021, Dalton received 306 votes to challenger Ethan Vaas’s 282 votes. Dalton is a business owner who wants to make Newton a great place to live and a city her owner children are proud to be from and want to come back to. In a statement to Newton News, Dalton suggested she is ready to get back to work.
“I’m really just looking forward to continuing the projects and vision we’ve already started and bringing even more great things to Newton,” Dalton said. “We’ve built some strong momentum and I’m excited to keep it going. I would also like to say a quick thanks to everyone who came out and voted for me tonight.”
Dalton also congratulated the new mayor, city council members and school board members.
