Two new people have earned seats on the Newton City Council.

Preliminary election results from the Jasper County Auditor’s Office on Election Night show Jeff Holschuh and Amy Roth secured the Ward 4 and at-large seats, respectively. Both Holschuh and Roth ran unopposed. Holschuh managed to secure 940 votes while Roth received 283 votes.

Holschuh previously ran for the Newton School Board in 2021 but was ultimately unsuccessful. He works as a business development director at Advantage Credit Union and has been a resident of Newton for the past 15 years. Holschuh is eager to begin his new role and serve his constituents.

“Thank you to the voters for allowing me the opportunity to serve,” Holschuh said in a statement to Newton News on Election Night. “I’m very much looking forward to being part of continuing to make Newton a great place to live, work and raise a family.”

Roth is retired and has worked a number of communications jobs in Illinois before relocating to Newton five years ago to be closer to family. Roth wanted to run for city council because she has seen the progress the city has made and wants to be a part of bringing Newton to an even higher level.
