Jasper County authorizes use of culverts to replace 2 bridges in Reasnor area

Metal Culverts, Inc. awarded projects with $13K and $38K bids

Supervisors recently purchased culvert pipes to replace two bridges in Jasper County near Reasnor.

Supervisors recently purchased culvert pipes to replace two bridges in Jasper County. The culverts will be replacing Bridge S13 on East 64th Street South over a stream and Bridge R01 on East 40th Street South over Reasnor Creek. The board of supervisors approved both bids at its Aug. 26 meeting.

County Engineer Michael Frietsch said Bridge S13 is located southeast of Reasnor and will be replaced with an 84-inch pipe and a 48-inch pipe side by side. Two bids were received for the project. Metal Culverts, Inc. submitted the low bid of $13,623 while Leymaster Tile offered $17,208.10.

“Our estimate was $18,355,” Frietsch said. “We have essentially $40,000 programmed for this project, so we’re in good shape.”

Frietsch said it will not take a long time to install the culverts.

Two bids were also received for Bridge R01. Metal Culverts, Inc. submitted the low bid of $38,451.60 while Leymaster Tile submitted a $64,342.08 bid. Frietsch estimated the project would cost $46,791.36, which puts both projects under budget. Metal Culverts, Inc. was awarded both bids.

Both projects are scheduled to be complete within five working days starting approximately Sept. 2.

At the same meeting, Jasper County also purchased culvert pipe stockpile materials from Leymaster Tile for $14,853.89. The singular bid came in over the engineer’s estimate. Frietsch estimated it would cost closer to $11,000. Either way, he felt it was a reasonable price for the materials.
