MercyOne Newton Medical Center welcomes pediatrician Dr. Mike Metts

MercyOne Newton Medical Center is excited to welcome pediatrician Dr. Mike Metts. With more than two decades of experience in general pediatrics, he brings a whole-health approach focused on prevention, education and compassionate care for children from infancy through late teens.

Known for his engaging style and deep commitment to patient well-being, Dr. Metts blends clinical expertise with a lighthearted touch. “I’ve always believed that medicine is serious – but where I can, I try to have fun,” he said. “Whether it’s a Mickey Mouse voice, a ‘dad’ joke or a simple magic trick, I want kids to feel safe, seen and even smile during their visit.”

Dr. Metts earned his DO degree from Des Moines University and completed his pediatrics residency at the University of Missouri. He has been part of the MercyOne family since 1999, previously practicing in the Des Moines metro area.

“This community has long asked for a dedicated pediatrician, and we’re proud to deliver on that,” Chad Kelley, the hospital’s Chief Operating Officer said. “Dr. Metts brings not only exceptional clinical expertise but also a genuine passion for helping children thrive. His arrival marks a significant step forward in expanding access to specialized care for families in Newton and surrounding areas.”

To help introduce Dr. Metts to the community, MercyOne Newton will host a special meet-and-greet event at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28 in the hospital’s Inservice Room, 204 N. Fourth Ave. E. Guests are invited to enjoy complimentary refreshments while Dr. Metts shares an introductory presentation, answers questions during an open Q&A, and leads a tour of the new Pediatrics Care location. Attendees are welcome to park on the north side of the hospital campus and enter through the Emergency Department doors.
