Police charge 21-year-old Newton man with enticing a minor and grooming

Office had posed as an underage girl on social media

Police have arrested a 21-year-old Newton man for sexual communications with a law enforcement officer posing as an underage girl on Snapchat.

According to a press release from Newton Police Department, Ryan Hammen was arrested by officer at approximately 3:52 p.m. Aug. 13, and he was then transported to Jasper County Jail. The arrest stemmed from an investigation that started after Hammer began communicating with the officer posed as a minor.

The police department alleges Hammen had requested a meeting with the teenager, and at that meeting he was met by officers as subsequently charged with enticing a minor under 16 for a sexual purpose (Class D felony) and grooming (Class D felony).
